A very big part of any Mastiff puppy's early life is play. But were you aware that playtime can also be learning time as well? Play can be a valuable tool in training your Mastiff puppy everything from learning simple commands to teaching them the ins and outs of socializing and what it takes to be a well behaved dog.
There are three basic things that a Mastiff puppy - even one as young as six weeks old - needs to start learning. The first and most useful of those things is simply the word, "No." You will be using that command repeatedly during your relationship with your dog and so it is very important that he knows it from the start.
And it's easy. Dogs, even puppies, are adept at recognizing tone of voice. When they learn to associate a displeased, forceful tone of voice with the word no, you will not in the future have to be so forceful in your utterances. But first you do have to get his attention. When the Mastiff pup does something wrong, simply pick him up, gain eye contact and tell him very firmly, "No." It will get an immediate reaction. Your puppy may drop his head shepishly, growl, or try to play his way out of it, depeding on his personality. If either of the latter two happens, you will have to repeat the command to show that you are not kidding.
Then, simply let it go. Put the pup down and keep a watchful eye on his response. A rebellious pup may repeat the action as a way to test you, in which case you need to repeat the process. Be gentle, but be firm and consistent and your pup should get the message.
As for the other things that your baby needs to know, you will probably default to teaching him the proper way to go potty. This is actually easier than you might think, as pups are a lot smarter than they look. However, the most important thing is timing. If you notice a puddle on the floor and your pup has since gone off to play with his ball, the only thing you can do is clean it up and watch him more closely. Don't rub his nose in it, or he will simply be hurt and confused. What you want to do is catch him in the act. Anytime you see him getting ready to tinkle, quickly pick him up and take him outside. But he will probably be so shocked that he will save some for the yard, where you can praise him when he goes.
The third thing that your Mastiff pup needs to know is that he should never put his teeth on a human being. This is a tough one, as it is so much fun to play "bite" with a youngster. But when they are older, you really don't want them to play so rough. So when you play with him, be sure to do so with toys that are okay for him to bite. If he bites when you are trying to pet him, tell him no and give him his toy or put his toy right in his mouth. If he keeps trying, you should pick him up and tell him no. If you are consistent, you should get good results.
When your pup has accomplished learning her first command, or goes outside instead of on the floor and stops puppy-biting, she is well on her way to graduating from a Mastiff puppy to a well-mannered adult.

Getting a Pet Insurance Comparison Gives The Right Choices For Your Needs
If you have family pets, then you may understand the awful feeling of knowing that you cannot afford to take your pets to the veterinarian for proper care. If you have been in that situation or simply want to avoid such stress, then you may want to check out your options for pet health insurance and take some time to conduct a pet insurance comparison.
In more recent years, getting pet insurance to provide for the dogs, cats and various other members of your extended family has practically become a must-have item, particularly for homes that have more than one pet. As the vet bill increase, it makes good sense to invest in pet health insurance, similar to as you would do for the human people within your home. Such pet health insurance can make very good economic sense, but it is important to conduct a comparison before purchasing animal care insurance.
You will find that there are many companies today that offer pet health insurance coverage. Doing a pet insurance comparison can be very beneficial in helping you to sort through and find the best type of coverage for your family pets and the best cost for the premiums. One of the most efficient ways of making such comparisons is by going online and checking the various offerings of the different pet insurance companies.
There are even some websites that will help you to do your insurance comparison, by showing a side-by-side listing of the different aspects of pet insurance so that you can quickly compare the different policies and companies. This is a great time saver and can help you quickly eliminate pet insurance company offerings or a pet plan that does not offer what you need most. Once you have identified the plan that will provide the type of coverage you want, then it is easier to make the comparisons.
When doing an insurance comparison, some of the things you will want to consider and perhaps even seek out additional information about are: whether the plan includes coverage for kennel fees; whether you can take your pet to any licensed veterinarian or if you must choose from a list of approved animal care professionals; if the plan covers wellness or preventative care benefits; whether the plan covers boarding fees in the event that you become ill and cannot care for your pet yourself and if you need to find a plan that will also extend coverage to related events such as being reimbursed for cancellation fees associated with travel. These are simply some of the numerous things to consider that need to be taken into consideration when coming to a conclusion on veterinary pet insurance plans to meet your particular needs.
In addition to these concerns, there are also a number of things that should be looked at with regard to each pet insurance company. When doing a comparison for insurance, you need to know the answers to, at the very least, these types of questions when it comes to the different companies; what length of time have they been in the pet insurance industry? Is the pet insurance company stable and does it have a good reputation? Has your veterinarian had any dealings with the company and have those dealings been positive? Does the pet insurance company employ ony licensed or certified professional for key positions?
Even though it can often be very tempting to look for the cheapest pet insurance, a complete pet insurance comparison can help you to make the best decision and find the balance between cost and coverage. In addition, part of the comparison should take into account the track record and reliability of the different pet insurance companies that you are considering. In general, it is better to be sure you have the right coverage, versus saving a few dollars on the monthly premium.

Cheap Pet Insurance Provides Low Cost Solutions for Your Pets Care
There are many households in the United States where the pets in the family are considered to be of equal importance just as any other member. Just as the family is concerned about the health care needs of loved ones, they are equally concerned about the well-being of their beloved pets. Purchasing cheap pet insurance can help the family to have the security that their family pets will be able to get the health care they deserve, without the stress of figuring out how to pay for the veterinary pet bills.
Pet insurance is a fairly new insurance product on the market. It has become an excellent method for the average american family to have the option to have a sense of well being as well as security that your pet will be cared for in the right way in the unfortunate event that an illness befalls them.
Pet health insurance was introduced to the market about 20 years ago and was met with some skepticism and ridicule. Some thought it was simply a new method for insurance companies to sell policies, while others thought that is was something only the wealthy could afford. However, for many families, cheap pet insurance has provided the needed coverage for health care services for their pets and reduced financial stress for the family.
The best news is that with the advent of more affordable and cheaper pet insurance, people are able to relax knowing that their pet will be taken care of in times of need. This takes away the worry and concern that is often in the back of people's minds. When a family budget is already stretched thin to take care of necessities for the children in the household, adding concern about an illness or accident with the family pet can place additional stress on the parents.
Now that pet health insurance has been out on the open market for at least a few years, thare a additional providers getting into the field and making in competition. This has the beneficial effect for the consumer of lower prices and making cheaper pet insurance available. There are now options for veterinary pet care coverage that can be obtained for just a few dollars a month as the premium.
However, it should be noted that cheaper pet insurance is not always the best pet insurance for your particular needs and for your specific situation. One of the things that you need to watch out for when doing any type of comparison pet insurance is to uncover how reliable the company that is backing the insurance policy is. It can be terribly frustrating and expensive to make a decision to go forward with a procedure for your pet based on expected coverage and then run into excuses and run-around's by the insurer trying to avoid paying the veterinarian.
One way to avoid this problem with any kind of pet insurance, is to do your homework. Ask questions about how long the company has been in business. Go online and check out the forums for individuals who have had experience with the pet insurance company that you are thinking about. Check with your veterinarian and ask if they know the company and if they have ever had problems with being paid promptly.
Investing a bit of time to do research can help you to avoid some of the possible negative outcomes of choosing cheap pet insurance. It is a good idea to check with the Better Business Bureau to find where the pet insurance company you are considering is located and how they resolve complaints. This extra investigative work will pay off because you will know that you have secured the right pet health insurance, and you can rest assured the coverage is legitimate, if it is needed.

Dog Life Jackets
Many people love their dogs and take them with them everywhere they go. People that take their dog to the beach or out boating should seriously consider buying him or her a dog life jacket. For many a dog owner, their beloved pet is treated just like one of the family. If you would never consider allowing your child near deep water without a life jacket, then it stands to reason that your dog should be wearing a dog life jacket too.
Dog life jackets look like a waterproof dog coat, and allow your dog all of the freedom of movement that a regular dog coat allows them, so they can swim, or ride your jet ski or partake in whatever water activity you both enjoy. Another advantage to having a dog life jacket is the handle made on the back side which will allow you to pull him out of the water quickly if needed.
A life jacket for your dog could very well save his or her life, and I would recommend that all dogs wear one when at the beach, lake or near deep water. Many dogs become distracted easily and this can create problems if they are on a boat or even a wharf, pier or jetty. They can be distracted by birds, other boats, surfers and any number of things that can cause them to accidently fall off the boat or pier. If that happens and they have a life jacket on, then you will be able to bring them to safety easier and faster or it will give them a better chance to swim to safety.
Dogs that love water also love to play in it and can get very excited while playing in or around it. Many dogs have drowned when playing in the water with a ball or some other item in their mouth. They can get too tired without noticing it because they are keenly focused on playing with you or the toy. If that happens a strong current can take the life of your dog.
Wearing a dog life jacket will give you the time you may need to rescue your dog from a current or rip tide, or allow him to remain afloat to ride the tide back to shore. You can get a good dog life jacket by searching the internet for such items or you can even order one special from your local pet store if they do not already carry them in stock. Dog life jackets are very important to have for your dog during any outing around water and you can purchase them in any size needed to fit your dog.

Dog Obedience Training
Even dogs with some of the best well breeding or dogs that are well adapted to humans still need some basic obedience training, because these skills are not something they pick up on their own. Obedience training requires the use of some principles which differentiate effective training, from training without results. Principles to Learn:
Principle One: CONSISTENCY
Consistency is the first basic rule in effective dog training. This covers the use of words, tone, and the actions that accompany the word or command. Before you begin training you will need to come to an agreement with the dog owner on what it is they are wanting the dog to learn and how to accomplish it.
At first the word commands, such as "come", does not make sense to a dog. It is only reasonable to conclude if he does not understand the way humans are, then he does not understand our language. So to make the training understandable, you should use the command in a very consistent manner so that the dog will learn to associate the word with the meaning you attach with it.
Another example would be, if you are using the command "come", make sure that everyone in the household use it in a same type of manner. The command "Come" specifically means that the dog should approach the giver of the command. When you are using this command be sure not to use any signals or body movements that would be confusing to the dog.
Don’t be deterred in your training efforts if the dog does not come to your right away, be patient and don’t force or scold him. If you punish the dog over and over after giving the command they will begin to associate the word with the punishment. The dog will not want to follow the same command because in his mind it leads to punishment.
Being consistent in your dog commands is to be followed by anyone who works with the dog. For example, if you are using the command "come", other people in the household should not replace it with words like "here" or, "come here boy".
Second Principle: Keep It Short
The hours devoted to training and the words used as command should be kept short. Keep in mind that the attention span of dogs is very short and that getting them engrossed with a specific activity can be very hard, if not impossible. For example, puppies love to explore and play with something for awhile, then soon they are off again to explore the next new thing that may catch their attention.
They can quickly loose interest in an activity sometimes within just moments after beginning, and will need something else to stimulate their senses. They also often become board during training and that is why it’s best to limit the time to 10 - 15 minutes a day.
Third Principle: No Punishment or Force Allowed
Never hurt the dog if you want him to be acceptable to being trained. You should absolutely never punish a dog just because he did not do something he wasn’t prepared for, nor force a dog to do something he does not understand.
Make sure not to over do it when training your dog. A good trainer realizes dogs do not learn things instantly and so they are very patient and show understanding towards the animal they are working with. All he knows is that you are mad.
You must avoid negative experiences related to training so you should not force your dog to obey your commands. By praising a dog for good behavior and obeying commands he will learn exactly what pleases you and what is expected from him.

Dog Obedience Training
Even dogs with some of the best well breeding or dogs that are well adapted to humans still need some basic obedience training, because these skills are not something they pick up on their own. To be successful in obedience training you need to understand the differences between effective and non-effective training techniques. They are the following:
First Principle: CONSISTANCY
The first rule in obedience training is to be consistent. You need to be consistent in the words you use, the tone they are spoken in and the actions that accompany them. Before you begin training you will need to come to an agreement with the dog owner on what it is they are wanting the dog to learn and how to accomplish it.
For example saying the word "come", does not make any sense to a dog. He does not understand things the way humans think and he does not understand the language we use. It is important to make the training effective, by being very consistent in attaching the same voice tone, body movement or hand jester with every command that is given to your dog.
An example would be if you use the word, "come", then you need to make sure everyone else in the household using the same word. The command "Come" specifically means that the dog should approach the giver of the command. So if you are using this command make it a point not to do actions that would make the command confusing for the dog.
Principle Two: KEEP IT SHORT
Both the amount of time you spend training and the words you use as commands should be kept short. Keep in mind that the attention span of dogs is very short and that getting them engrossed with a specific activity can be very hard, if not impossible. Puppies usually react to a specific stimulus, but not for a very long time, they may begin to chase a moving toy, and quickly lose interest, then move on to the next thing.
They can quickly loose interest in an activity sometimes within just moments after beginning, and will need something else to stimulate their senses. The same thing happens in training therefore, it should be limited only to 10 minutes to 15 minutes of regular training.
Third Principle: No Punishment or Force Allowed
A trainer should never hurt the dog in any way, you should make it a goal to have the training be a positive experience for all involved. You should absolutely never punish a dog just because he did not do something he wasn’t prepared for, nor force a dog to do something he does not understand.
Don’t push the animal too hard while dog training. A good trainer realizes dogs do not learn things instantly and so they are very patient and show understanding towards the animal they are working with. All he knows is that you are mad.
So do not use force as this does not communicate your meaning properly, instead gives a negative reinforcement. If he knows that he is praised when he does something right, he should not be praised when he does not follow a command.

Crate Training Dog
To begin crate training your dog you need to let them get used to it before locking them inside. You could walk away from him or watch him as he calms down inside. Remember this is for training so if he begins to act up you should not let him out. Be patient and let him calm down and then you can let him out. Do this exercise for a couple of days until he has learned to enter the crate and leave it on his own.
Many people protest against crate training a dog because, according to them, it is similar to solitary confinement. However, with the benefits mentioned below and other benefits not listed in this article, may help you to conclude that crate training could benefit both owner and his dog.
People who take the right approach to crate training puppies will help their dog or puppy realize it to be a safe place for them to rest and not something to fear.
Crate training is based on the instinct of the dog to find some security with den nesting places that are isolated from all distractions. For dogs, a den can serve as their home. Through proper introduction and selection of the right techniques, the dog will not be threatened by this approach to training.
Benefits of Using a Crate
a) There are times when you can not let your dog run around freely and a crate is a great way to keep them with you, while controlling them at the same time.
b) The dog will feel relatively safe inside the crate especially when located in places where they are most vulnerable.
c) They would have a place for solace when they wanted to rest or when feeling under stressed where no one could bother them.
d) A crate could also be used to limit dogs with problem behaviors.
e) Puppies respond well to crate training as a way to teach them potty training skills and what not to chew on or to not bite people.
f) If your dog has separation anxieties, once they become familiar with their crate they will be able to calm down better.
g) It could secure the dog whenever the owner has to bring him outside.
h) Dogs feel safe and secure inside their own familiar crate.
i) Crates could enhance training by giving the dog a better sense of direction for routine activities.
Size Does Matter
You will need to choose a crate that allows the dog enough room to stand up and lie down comfortably, without him hitting his head or body against the walls or door all the time. However, if you also intend to use the crate for travel, the crate should be larger than the regular above mentioned size.
If you are using the crate for training only, it should follow the guidelines that was just mentioned, since a larger crate would give him enough room to do unwanted things in the crate.
How to introduce the crate to the dog
Once you feel your dog is ready for the crate, that is the best time to introduce them to it. After you purchase the right crate for your dog you will need to put it someplace in the home where they will see it often. The first week you should remove the door and just let him explore it at his leisure.
If he does not show any sign of interest, try leaving some of his favorite treats inside. After a couple of days, try feeding your dog inside the crate. This special treat is a signal to your dog that this a special place just for him, and that will create a sense of safety and security all dogs enjoy.

If you punish the dog over and over after giving the command they will begin to associate the word with the punishment. He will not follow the same command since in his mind, he remembers it will lead to punishment.
Consistency also covers the use of the same dog commands by all people. For example, if you are using the command "come", other people in the household should not replace it with words like "here" or, "come here boy".
Principle Two: KEEP IT SHORT
The hours devoted to training and the words used as command should be kept short. Dogs tend to have a short attention span, it is best to limit the training so they keep the interest level to it’s peak during the days lesson. Puppies usually react to a specific stimulus, but not for a very long time, they may begin to chase a moving toy, and quickly lose interest, then move on to the next thing.
They simply don’t possess the same amount of interest they had when they started the activity and they become easily bored.
The dog does not understand that he should learn things "instantly" and he does not realize that you are becoming impatient with the speed he is picking up the training. All he knows is that you are mad.
So do not use force as this does not communicate your meaning properly, instead gives a negative reinforcement. If he knows that he is praised when he does something right, he should not be praised when he does not follow a command.

Cheap Dog Training Collars
Should you invest in supplies to train your dog?
It is important to know you will devote a lot of time and need to spend some money to successfully train your dog.
It is perfectly okay to buy very expensive dog collars if you prefer doing so. However, you will find there are a great deal of choices for you to choose from that do not cost as much. Starting from stone studded collars to fashion dog collars, you can get anything but may end up spending a fortune. Most owners do not like to spend the extra money on dog training collars and therefore choose to use one that will be more practical and meet the basic requirements.
If you have a dog with a lot of energy or is highly curious you can find it stressful to train them, as you learn to deal with all his behavior patterns.
After investing for your dog’s training without satisfactory results, many owners tend to cut down from spending too much on other things that contribute nothing to improving the behavior of the dog. One good example is the dog training collar.
If the dog you are training likes to chew on things you may not want to invest in a nicer, more expensive collar at least until he begins learning to respond well to training. It is important to realize that the behavior of the dog and teaching them to respond to training is the main thing to focus on and not the collar, or any other accessories.
While dog collars are instrumental in gaining better control and correcting lesser unwanted dog behaviors, the expensive ones could still put a dent in the budget of the owner. This is the reason why many owners resort to buying cheap dog training collars as good alternatives, without having to sacrifice the function of the item, or adding an unnecessary financial burden.
To get a cheap collar with good value it is best to first evaluate the product before looking at how much it costs. It is a common mistake among buyers to use the cost as the basis for assessing the value, rather then basing it on the function and reliability.
Cost is a good margin for getting the right collar, but it should not affect the way one sees the item. For example, an excellent collar could give the best value at its lowest possible price. Another thing to be aware of is that just because the price is low, don’t think the quality of the collar is low too.
Remember, we were made to believe that price equals quality. You do not need to be in the mindset of thinking’s items at the lower end of pricing are of less quality, while those having expensive tags have the best quality. This can indeed be the truth for certain brand names but is not always the case. So be sure to find the best bargains at their best prices.
When advanced technologies are integrated into the collar, they are often retailed at much higher prices. The popular electronic dog collar is a good candidate. The price of this collar runs anywhere from $100 to $999 depending on the types of features installed in the item. You can expect a lot higher prices when more advanced technologies are used in making the collar.
Since dog collars can cost hundreds of dollars many people find it impractical to spend that much money on it, because it is a training accessory. With a little research you can find the type of collar you want and in the price range your willing to spend.

Career Dog Training
Some people choose a career in dog training simply because it is a popular choice, however, there are those who are really passionate about canines in a way that their life’s direction has led them towards loving dogs even more.
Do you fall in the category of people who pursue their career in dog training just because someone said it is a good thing to do, or, because you have fallen so in love with dogs and want to fall even deeper?
Back to Basic Principles
Before choosing a career in dog training you should know it not only requires a love for dogs, you also need knowledge about their basic behaviors, and you will need the skills on how to handle and discipline them properly. Dog trainers usually have a long history of experience with dogs and interaction with many dog owners, handlers and their pets.
What is your "Dog Division"?
There are two types of careers in the dog world: the pet service training and the dog training. Both are very popular in demand however, there are more opportunities in the dog training field verses a career in pet service training.
Pet dog training involves teaching the dog how to live as a companion with his master and learning the basics such as obedience, being potty trained and learning acceptable behaviors which may include eliminating bad behaviors such as biting and barking.
Service training, on the other hand, involves specified training on services required by people with disabilities and those undergoing therapy. Some service dog trainers teach dogs to be search and rescue dogs such as the ever important police dogs or even hunting dogs.
Each of these take a large amount of dedication and patience on the trainers part as they are very intense fields of specialize divisions.
Understanding of Canine Psychology
Learn all about dog behavior - their thinking, their behaviors and their reaction to stimulus. Trainers will need to constantly work with a dog to teach them to react in a desired way to any given command. You should also know well the fundamentals of associative conditioning.
Where Can You Learn Dog Training Education?
Careers in dog training require you have the skills to train and handle dogs. Currently today, there are no colleges or universities that offer the ability for people to get degrees in dog training. The good news is that there are dog ’academies’ or ’schools’ that provide the basic training you will need. Often, the best dog trainers are often self taught and have natural inclination to dog handling.
Some people learn by practical experience while others just have a certain natural talent with dogs. You can also find a number of dog training organizations or books with great techniques on training dogs.
People and dogs both have attitudes and a good dog trainer will need to work with both.
Dog training involves training the handlers of the dog as well Therefore if you are pursuing a career in this field, it is very important that you have good people skills and that you can tolerate all types of people.
There are impatient owners who expect fast learning from their dogs, and they are reluctant to taking advice openly, however, others are relatively open to suggestions. You need to work with both types of dog handlers and everyone in between. So as you can see, a good dog trainer will not only be working with dogs but with their owners and handlers too.
Dog training is not limited to "training" alone; there are also certain aspects that you should be knowledgeable of, like the maintenance of proper dog hygiene, nutrition and grooming.
Having a vast knowledge of what accessories to use and training aids that are available will help during dog competitions. It is also important to be able to distinguish different dog breeds and have an understanding of their fundamental differences.
You don’t have to be a master in dog training to be an excellent trainer; you only have to develop certain skills necessary in working with dogs and their handlers, by using sufficient knowledge on theories, then have the capacity to use them in a practical way.

Bird Dog Training
People are amazed at watching a well trained bird dog in action. These finely trained bird dogs never fail to heed their owners’ commands. Then we think - How could this be possible? You may wonder if bird dog training will help bring out the best in your dog.
The simple answer is yes, but you have to invest hard.
There are some breeds that have a natural lineage, giving them the ability to becoming a good bird dog. Teaching them to obey basic commands is the best place to start. Dog training professionals acknowledge the fact that dogs need to understand what command is being used in order to make them respond. For this basic voice command training, there are basic words a owner should use to train the dog.
First is for them to learn the "Stay" command.
Teaching your dog to respond to your ’Stay’ command, is very important for them to learn early during training.
As the dog follows these commands completely, it is a clear picture on how obedient and respectful he is to his master. Complete obedience is shown by obeying the command no matter how far the distance is between the giver of the command and the dog.
The ’Whoa’ or ’Easy’ command is useful for dogs that are going too far ahead, when the dog is flushing the bird and the owner wants him to stop, or when the dog wants to play with the bird. Once they obey your command it would be good to go to him and praise or reward them for a doing a good job.
Teaching them to ’Come’
This command simply suggests that the dog should approach you as commanded. The uses of this command are rather simple. A good reason to teach them to come, would be that when retrieving something, they bring it back to you when instructed to do so. Also, there are dogs that are a bit stubborn and may decide to go off in different directions. Teaching your dog to ’Come’ will help keep him within the range you need, for them to obey any additional commands.
The ’Heel ’Command
If you want your dog to walk by your side, the right command to teach your dog is, ’Heel’.
It is normally matched with another one-word command such as "okay", or "go" to signal his release. By using this command your dog will know they did a good job during the hunt and you are pleased with them.
Each and every time your dog performs correctly for you as he was instructed, always reward or praise him generously. Fine dogs are born with the instinct to please their owners. If you can let your dog see that he is pleasing you with his performance and you want him to repeat it, the best thing you can do is to reward him. Overtime, he will learn to repeat the same desirable actions as long as you allow him to do so.
Bird dog training takes dedication and persistence. It is because of this, there are few well trained bird dogs today. Always be confident that your dog can become a fine hunter if you do what it takes to make him successful, by showing him patience in teaching him to obey basic commands.

Dog Jumping Training
While puppyhood would be the best time to start training, educating your dog to stop jumping can be taught to all ages of dogs. Start in on by training your dog not to jump on people, also consider buying instructional books, enrolling them in a dog obedience class, or get aid from a professional. The most vital aspect is to be lenient when it comes to controlling the jumping manners amongst dogs. Just like people, dogs too become skilled at at their own speed.

But consider that your dog is only trying to get close to you and is frantic for your arrival, and exasperating would be the perfect word to depict training your dog to stop jumping. Thus, dog behavior like this would need to be discouraged as it can be risky for kids or elderly people. But always check first the status of your dog’s behavior just before you enroll your dog in an obedience class.
Sit. Stay. These commands will work without a doubt for training dogs to stop jumping . Once accomplished, the idea of initially seeing them jump excitedly will be eliminated. Order "stay" when you first enter the room, and gesture them it’s okay for them to approach you. After that, their excitement will have mellowed down a little. But you still need to recognize that every dog answers differently to training, so have patience.
Try holding their paws and release them gently on the ground every time your dog jumps up on you. While doing this, command "No" or "No jump," any of the two would work perfectly with your dog training strategy. Keep in mind to constantly reiterate the same phrase when it comes to curbing the jumping so that your pet will acknowledge and recognize its importance.
Reward is vital in dog training, so compensate your beloved dog if they don't jump on you when you arrive home and give kind praise on them. Not only they will feel good but they will be more apt to learn by heart the deeds you taught them.

Stop Dog Chewing
Do you have a dog chewing problem ? A dog that loves to chew on anything he sees interesting and you can’t seem to figure out why he has this kind of passion? Did you ever come home from work and found your newest pair of shoes being chewed upon by your, cute, sweet and innocent, little dog? If this is a familiar scenario to you, I suggest that you continue to read on.
Chewing is one of the nastiest behaviors that any dog can pick up. Besides it being destructive to your property, a a dog chewing might get injured by breaking its teeth or swallowing harmful material. Moreover, , some dogs gnaw on themselves! This kind of unpleasant behavior may cause hair loss and even serious infections to areas of their bodies like their tails, legs, and feet. If you have a dog chewing problem , instead of dismissing the act as a typical dog behavior, work to immediately correct the situation.
It is a fact that puppies chew a lot. However, their choices of what to chew on will be directly dependent upon you . If you are welcoming a new puppy into your home, be sure to supply it with adequate toys to prevent your pooch from destroying your home, car, or wardrobe. Moreover, keep in mind to pick toys that are not mistaken for those “out of bound” objects. To somehow redirect its attention from the new pair they have just bought, many dog owners prefer to grant their pups with cast off shoes but to their surprise the puppy would still chew up on their brand new pair instead. Look for chewing toys and bones that will not splinter, break, or split and potentially cause a choking hazard. So that your dog does not become bored and opt to chew on your beloved possessions and furniture as an alternative, give your puppy with several different toys in various areas.
Yes, there are simple steps that can help you prevent your dog from chewing up your possessions! For starters, the easiest way to stop this routine is to keep an eye on your dog. Dogs cannot chew up your house and home while you sit watching them. Vigilance is a huge part of dog ownership. Besides, think about keeping your dog to a room or area of your home until you can trust him to have free rein of your abode. In addition to vigilance, cleanliness is a large factor in what a dog has access to chew. Simply put, your dog cannot chew your shoes unless they were left accessible. If you find your dog chewing something, if possible, place it out of his reach. In all fairness, the dog will continue chewing the same item until it is either removed or completely destroyed.
“But what about the larger things like furniture, doors, or appliances that will be hard to move”, you say? For these structures, apply a thin film of Bitter Apple. Like its name suggests, this solution is quite bitter and very unsavory for dogs. Available in a spray or cream, Bitter Apple will not damage the finish of your furniture and can easily be wiped away once the dog learns not the chew. Don’t be alarmed if your dog does ingest the material, it will not make him sick, as the contents of it are non-toxic.
Lastly, be the protector of your own things. Teach your dog commands like "leave it" and instruct him to cease and desist the gnawing of your items. Use a spray bottle or a shaker device rather than physical punishment, which can sometime cause dogs to become more destructive in protest. If your dog is chewing on himself more than your home, immediately visit your veterinarian. There are a lot of skin conditions, including parasitic infections that can cause a dog to chew on his own skin in order to find relief. Turn to a cooling spray that will provide relief as the area begins to heal. Also, use an antibiotic cream to prevent infection.

Dog Biting due to Fear
Dog bites occur for a variety of reasons. But one of the most {isolated} deserted reasons why your dog bites is FEAR. We might think of them as being aggressive but in reality it is fear that rules over their actions. A fear response in dogs is a mixture of emotional, physical, and physiological reaction designed to help protect your dog from harm. When fear is one of the reasons your dog bites, it can be because it is afraid of certain sounds, sights, smells, or touches. And though these sensory things may make sense to us as causing fear, it can often be the generalized fear that causes us to misunderstand why your dog bites.
Generalized fear is an unpleasant, or more often, a strong emotion caused by anticipation or awareness of possible danger. This fear may come from a response to a sight, sound, smell, or touch that we, as people can understand. In other instances, when those things occur on our pets, it could be a basis for their anxiety on sight, sound, smell, or touch that happens at the same time that they can be in connection it with fear. This is why you may not be able to understand the reason why your dog bites, because the fear seems so irrational to you.
If one of the reasons why your dog bites is fear, then you need to realize that training your dog not to bite will take time and dedication from you. Preventing dog bites caused by fear begins with responsible pet ownership. It's the owner’s responsibility to make sure that his dog is properly obedience trained and properly contained. Patience really is a virtue when training your dog not to bite, because their fear may be very ingrained. A dog acts at a level of a two to three year old, so reasoning is not natural to him or her. If it was, then your dog would probably not be biting out of fear. They would be able to reason their way through the fearful situation. Instead, desensitization and conditioning should happen to break the connection between the fear and the biting behavior. Training is the first step at curbing dominance levels in all dogs. It is not the only solution to eliminating attacks but it is an integral part.
Desensitization method to control biting behavior is a little different for sounds, sights, and smells as it is when humans are the source of your dog's fear. This is why it’s very significant to understand what exactly the source of fear in your dog is. The desensitization process requires several weeks, depending on your dog and training sessions with him. The process requires a great deal of patience and dedication. Now, here is an exercise that you can begin with training your dog to do a “sit-stay” at your side; for sound you need to train your dog to sit-stay for 20 minutes, and for fear of people you need to train him for a 10 minute sit-stay.
You can also train your dog by having him to lie down and stay. Then produce the stimulus at a low interval so that it barely raises your dog's attention. Then gradually increase the stimulus, rewarding your dog each time they have no fear response. If your dog does show fear response, stop training and start up again later with the sound, sight, or smell at a lower intensity. Coach in various places with different people, but anytime you change any factor in your training, make sure you go back to the lowest intensity.
Take your dog to a "safe" area where they can be calm and not likely to show fear. Then have the dog sit-stay next to you while you allow a person they know to approach. When the person is twelve feet from you, award your dog. Have the person wave their arms around. If your dog shows no fear reaction, reward him or her. Keep having the individual do this as they gradually come in close enough to touch your dog. You can also let them try the exercise with funny clothes and movements.
Lastly, if your dog is showing good performance , take your pet to a more threatening location and begin the training. You need to take a 10 minute break by walking away and ignoring your dog at any time your dog shows a fear reaction. These techniques need to occur for twice a day, 30 minutes.

Case Study: Biting Dog
Sam is a three-year-old terrier mix that has a problem with biting. Other than biting the other dog at home, an 8 year old Spaniel, Sam has the habit of a dog biting and surprisingly snapping at his owners, Ted and Shelly. Both of them fear that Sam’s biting behavior will cause problems and because of this, they constantly make sure that Sam won’t get near their grandchildren for their own protection . However, keeping Sam in a separate area of their home has only caused an increase in their problems; he has started to chew and bark out of frustration, he gets easily agitated and always gets a little out of hand. Finally, Ted and Shelly both decided that it is time to put a halt on Sam out of his biting habit.
Since the biting habit has been going on for a while and the dog has clearly grown out of the puppy stage that usually has the most amounts of biting and gumming, and Shelly sought the help of a professional. Obtaining a referral from their family vet to an excellent veterinary behaviorist, Ted and Shelly made an appointment to bring Sam and meet with the professional vet behaviorist. During the first meeting, Sam made an attempt to bite Shelly when she pulled him out of his cage and snapped at the behaviorist when he tried to hold him.
The behaviorist felt the first step was to have a medical examination done on Sam, since a medical problem may be the cause of the biting. They considered that a medical reason may be the case because since Sam snapped at Shelly and the professional when he attempted to touch the small dog. Often, dogs that are in pain or discomfort use biting as a form of protection to stop the pain from occurring. However, after a full medical examination on Zoe, he was found to have a full bill of health.
The next thought was that Sam might be responding to a specific trigger. But since Shelly and Ted adopted Sam when he was still a puppy, they can’t figure any possible abusive background on their pet. To see how Sam interacts with them and their older dog, the behaviorist repeatedly makes a visit to Shelly and Ted's home. The visits proved to be quite educational and the behaviorist was able to determine that Sam used biting to showcase his jealousy. Especially since he was kept in a different part of the home and avoided when the grandchildren come to visit, Sam is increasingly jealous and uses biting to show his displeasure .
After the regular visits and examinations on the smaller pet dog, a training plan is implemented where Sam is instructed "no bite" and then sprayed with a water bottle. This command enforces the training and the spritz gets the dog's attention. Once Sam shuts his mouth, he is remarkably praised. Additionally, more steps were made to include Sam back into the home. Whenever the grandchildren come to visit, Sam is present, but he’ll be securely muzzled until he became fully trained to stop biting. Once this training was complete, Sam could be commanded and immediately close his mouth in order to abort the biting attempt. However, Sam wore a muzzle whenever Shelly and Ted left the two dogs alone and unsubstantiated , to prevent any injuries to the older dog.

Why Do Dogs Bark?
Why do dogs bark? That’s easy: dogs bark because they are telling you something, interacting with other dogs, or showing an emotion. Most likely, you’ve observed your dog with another dog at some point and seen them interact. Dogs bark at each other when they play or are just hanging out together. Sad to say but we are only able to guess the cause for your dog's barking behavior. The implication of their bark is easier to understand when dogs communicate with humans. A simple way to understand barking as it relates to human beings is to compare it to a crying baby.
Babies cry when they are hungry, gloomy, bored, lonesome, need to be changed, or sick. When asking yourself, "Why do dogs bark?" the answer is just the same. Your pet’s bark will notify you when they are ready to have their meal, when they want to go outside, when they’re feeling something, when they would like a treat, and so on. It’s understanding to decipher just what that bark means that could take some time. Having your dog for quite a while, you'll start to appreciate of what the barking means much more clearly.
Why do dogs bark at nothing? The answer is they don't. It may look like there is no reason for barking profusely, but that is not always the case. When your dog barks incessantly, and you think they are for no reason at all, try to consider the possibilities. Is your dog in pain, hungry, excited to go for a walk in the park or they have spotted someone outside your home? We may not notice some of these smaller things going on around us, but your dog will. If your dog is barking at the walls or at something non-existent, there is a possibility of psychological or health reason fro the barking, so maybe you would like to have you dog checked by a professional.
Why dogs bark nonstop? To figure out the reason for barking, try observing your dog. Most of the time, if you observe them, a dog will likely point their nose in the direction of whatever it is they want while barking at the same time. If you notice that your pet is barking nonstop and standing just beside the cupboard where you keep your doggie biscuits, then you’ve just figured out what he or she wants! Dogs normally show their behavior, and it’s up to each owner to pay close attention to their beloved pet to figure out what their bark is telling them. Barking incessantly means that there is a need not being met. In some situations, to control the behavior, regular exercise is a must, because that need may not be met at all.
Why dogs bark when you are telling them not to do something? Not all dogs do this, but if your dog does, you can probably relate it to a teenager talking back to a parent. How to know if your dog is communicating back to you? You would hear them barking at you or making noises when you. It's their way of being disobedient towards you. To instruct and train your pet that you are the boss to restrain this rebellious behavior, you should definitely use some deference training.
Understanding why your dog barks is the key to controlling the behavior. Some barking behavior is a lot easier to control by meeting their easy needs like feeding them, water, or a walk outside. Nevertheless, barking behavior is a result of parting anxiety, fear, or dominance needs to be curbed with exercises before it escalates into more aggressive or detrimental behavior.

Types of Dog Aggression Behaviors
Each year, while only a small percentage of people are bitten by dogs, there are a lot of unacceptable other types of aggressive dog behavior. Rarely, violent behavior can be obvious symptoms of aggression, but its more passive for other kinds of dangerous behavior. Whether you observe their behavior as a more passive-aggressive or just a total danger, they are still behaviors that can escalate or cause problems in your home or people around you.
Initially, it is essential to note that the types of violent dog behavior are not well-known in any one breed over another. We also need to know how to handle an aggressive dog. Only about 1 percent in every breed of dogs shows signs of violent behavior. It is just definite, in certain breeds of dog; more volatile types of aggressive behavior appear to make the news more often, and for that reason, we assume it is common. And so, it is significant to remember that any dog that exhibit signs of violent behavior need to be taught out those manners.
There are definite kinds of aggressive dog behavior that occur for a variety of reasons. Generally, symptoms of outward aggression are growling, snarling, curling lips, and biting. Just because they are to be the most threatening qualities more people talk about the variations of aggressive behavior. Though, usual dog behaviors like mounting people, lunging, blocking your way, and barking can also be traits of aggression in dogs. But dog owners tend to dismiss these as peculiar traits because they think that its actions are not as directly aggressive towards humans.
Though these types of violent behavior occur mainly differ on what the core problems are. There are a least number of reasons for this kind of behavior. When your pet is trying to create dominance it will usually do a lot of jumping, lunging, blocking or mounting actions on you. Dogs are pack animals, so they will most of the time try to exhibit supremacy over small kids by “herding them” which might involve small nips at their ankle, while male dogs may try to create dominance to mount members of the family. It is significant when you observe these kinds of violent dog behavior to establish that you really the ‘alpha dog’ by taking control of things and situations.
A basis for hostile dog behavior is FEAR. A frightened dog’s initial response will normally be to put its tail between its legs, pull its ears back, and look away, or it will even run. Although if a dog feels ensnared, it may lash out with growling, snarling, and even biting. It is essential for your dog to feel secured, but there are a lot of methods to condition your dog to lower a fear response.
Facts like these, we can single-out ideas on how to handle an aggressive dog. This kind of aggressive dog behavior might be observed if your dog is feeling territorial or possessive. Dogs often have a sense of territory that they do not like to share their most possessed treasures and if closely observed, the same thing goes for humans. Also, a lot of aggressive behaviors may occur if your dogs feel that their territory is being violated or even when a family member is in danger. It is essential to restrain this kind of manner by taking precautionary actions and potentially dangerous situations should be avoided. For example, if your beloved is aggressive only when he or she eats, then you need to keep people away from his/her saucer during feeding times. You also need to establish that you are the boss over the food.
When dogs face fear or territorial breaches, when they cannot take their aggression out on the thing causing their fear, dogs sometimes turn their aggression toward something or someone else. This is called redirected aggression. Again, this behavior needs to be discouraged. Keep in mind though that discipline may be ok, but punishment is not. Using punishment to discourage the kinds of violent dog behavior will only make the problem worse by encouraging more violent actions.
What might be the causes behind these types of violence , it is significant to put off your dog from showing the behaviors. Allocate time to train your dog, which seldom needs a lot of patience and time, so that you keep your dog nourished, happy, and secure.

All Dogs Require This Essential Training
It is always so exciting to bring home your new puppy. Owning a dog brings a lot of responsibility. You have to feed her, groom her, provide her with proper health care, and give her a safe place to call home.
But one of the most important things you can do for your new dog or puppy is to provide essential dog training.
Discipline and Behavior
You really do not want to have a dog that is misbehaving all the time. Your dog can embarrass you, but even worse they can be dangerous.
Training requires lots of time and patience, but in the end you will have a well behaved dog that you can be proud of. Training will also strengthen the bond between you and your dog. Let your dog know what is considered appropriate behavior by taking the time to train her. For best results start early.
Dog Obedience Training
Obedience training is also an important part of your dog's overall training program. Levels of training varies from basic to advanced.
You should at least provide basic training for your dog or puppy. Commands like sit, stay, and come, are all part of basic training. So are house training and leash training.
Of course, you can always progress to a more advanced level. Provide additional training for your dog and you will have a well behaved pet. Destructive behaviors like barking, chewing, and digging can usually be prevented just by including the proper training. Just find a program that meets your needs and provides a results such as Sit, Stay, Fetch.
Puppy Training
Puppy training should start at an early age. Some people wait too long to start training their puppies and it makes it a little more difficult and frustrating. Some people believe that it is not possible to train a puppy younger than six months old, but I assure you that is a myth.
The skills that a puppy can learn are limited but you can start teching some of the basic commands right away. Just do some research to make sure you follow the proper techniques.
